October 11th 2024 – Unlocking the Ownership Economy: Tokenisation Policy Briefing

Overview:

The Digital Economy Council of Australia (DECA), the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre (DFCRC), and Ripple presented a landmark policy paper to Parliament outlining the regulatory reforms needed to unlock the full economic potential of real world asset (RWA) tokenisation.

The briefing explored how tokenising assets such as real estate, commodities, or securities can increase liquidity and access to private markets, with the potential to generate up to AUD $12 billion annually for the Australian economy.

The report identified three key reforms to enable growth: a clear taxonomy for digital assets, modernised licensing frameworks, and the introduction of regulatory sandboxes to support safe innovation.

Attendees from across government and industry discussed how Australia can remain globally competitive in the USD $2 trillion tokenisation market and ensure broad participation in this next phase of financial innovation.
